About Panama Quake

An independent public-benefit initiative to make earthquake information and practical preparedness easier to find.

Why it exists

Panama is seismically active, especially south of the Azuero peninsula, in Chiriquí and near the Colombian border. When the ground shakes, useful information is often scattered across technical sites, social media and official portals. Panama Quake brings the essentials together in one clear place, in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

Our commitment

Accuracy: we show data as the source publishes it. Transparency: we explain where it comes from and its limits. Accessibility: a fast site that works on your phone. Privacy: no accounts or ads, and only anonymous visit statistics. Independence: no commercial purpose.

How it works

We query EMSC's public service, which combines reports from Panama's Instituto de Geociencias, regional networks and USGS, to show recent earthquakes, and base our safety guides on recognised sources such as Ready.gov (FEMA), the Red Cross and SINAPROC, with links to each.

Helping those in need

When communities are affected, we aim to point people to legitimate ways to help — only through recognised organisations.

What the site can do

  • Show earthquakes reported by seismic networks on a map.
  • Explain how to prepare and what to do.
  • Point you to official sources and recognised organisations.

What it cannot do

  • Predict earthquakes or warn before shaking starts.
  • Issue official alerts or instructions.
  • Assess damage at a specific building or place.
  • Accept donations or register volunteers.

We are not an official body and have no government partnerships.

Independent, unofficial website. This is not an emergency alert or early-warning system. Data may be delayed, revised, or preliminary. For official alerts and instructions, consult the relevant authorities.
