How to Help Responsibly

After an earthquake, many people want to help but may not know what is genuinely needed. The safest approach is to follow verified requests from recognised organisations rather than independently sending unsolicited supplies or money.

Permanent organisations and resources

These links are permanent. They are not active appeals for a specific earthquake.

Practical ways to help

General educational recommendations, not current emergency requests.

Financial donations

Giving to established organisations is often more useful than sending goods: it lets them buy what's missing close to the affected area. Always verify who you are giving to.

Supplies

Donate goods only when a credible organisation specifically requests them and explains how and where to deliver them. Unsolicited shipments can overwhelm logistics.

Volunteering

Apply through recognised organisations. Don't enter affected or restricted areas on your own: you may put yourself at risk and hamper rescue work.

Sharing information

Share original official notices and verified resources. Avoid spreading unconfirmed casualty figures, rumours or old fundraising appeals.

Longer-term support

Affected communities also need help during recovery — weeks or months later — not only in the first days.

Verified Active Appeals

We currently have no earthquake-specific requests for assistance that we can verify. You can explore the permanent organizations and resources on this page to find ways to help and follow official guidance.

Give safely

  • Verify the organisation on its official website by typing the address yourself.
  • Check that the beneficiary and purpose are clearly identified.
  • Be wary of unfamiliar payment links, pressure to give “now”, and requests to send money to personal accounts without independent verification.
  • Before sharing a campaign, confirm it is still current.

How we prepare this page

Panama Quake links to external organisations but does not endorse, manage or collect funds for their campaigns, and never accepts donations or registers volunteers. We are a small project without an operations team: we review this page manually and do not continuously monitor every organisation. Whether or not an appeal is listed here does not establish whether help is needed elsewhere.
